AI as a Threat Vector

Artificial intelligence is no longer an isolated technical capability. It is increasingly embedded in decision-making, automation, customer-facing services, product development, analytics, and operational workflows. As AI moves deeper into the enterprise, it introduces risks that traditional security and governance models were not designed to manage. The challenge begins with the nature of AI itself. Many systems are probabilistic rather than deterministic. Their behavior can be difficult to explain, their outputs depend on data whose quality may be uncertain, and their performance can change as models, inputs, dependencies, and operating conditions change. A system that worked as expected yesterday may behave differently tomorrow without a conventional software defect ever occurring. At the same time, AI has become a new attack surface. Models can be probed, prompts manipulated, data poisoned, interfaces exploited, and AI-generated media used to undermine human trust. Threat actors can also use AI to increase the speed and scale of phishing, reconnaissance, malware development, and vulnerability discovery.
