I’ve been speaking a great deal on AI and the cybersecurity impacts that come from the rapid adoption.
In my talks I’ll often welcome folks to the Heavy Metal portion of the conference I’m speaking at.
Why?
Because like metal, the early days were a groundswell of hardcore fans. Following bands like Metallica that were playing venues of less than 5,000 people. Rough, gritty, pounding metal on indie labels.
In 2025, Metallica plays to stadiums of 150,000+ crowds. Refined, commercial and mainstream music.
Cybersecurity, like metal, was an industry that started out as merely IT security. Dedicated network engineers pursuing bad actors. Rough, gritty and completely hardcore.
Today cybersecurity is commercial, refined by marketers and made mainstream by every major vendor trying to capitalize on the hype.
Enter AI. The Napster of cybersecurity. Everyone’s an “expert” vibe-coding the industry into meaningless automation. Commercialization and AI is even making it easier for anyone to be an attacker.
Where is this heading? No where good.
We are moments away from Agentic AI operating independent of human direction across the kill chain. It’s starting to happen already.
Are the so called experts ready for the level of sophisticated attacks that vibe-coding didn’t prepare them for?
